Water/stain repellent for Coach bag?
I just bought the Coach Straw Basket as an early Mother’s Day gift for myself! =) Here’s a photo:

I called Coach’s Customer Service, and the rep told me the fabric trim is not treated for water or stain, which surprised me. She said I can apply an oil-free repellent to the fabric trim but to be sure not to get any on the straw or leather.
This sounds difficult to me. Any suggestions? Should I take it to a shoe repair place or a tailor?

My bag has the white trim.
The bag is trimmed with both leather and cotton canvas, and it is an authentic Coach product. The bag is edged with leather, and the wide ribbon just under that is fabric. Thanks.
