The Chanel Classic Flap bag is an innovative design by Karl Lagerfeld who took over creative leadership of the Chanel fashion house in 1983. The original design is the Chanel 2.55 chain bag, which takes its name from the year of its birth, February 1955. The Chanel 2.55 bag was one of the most revolutionary of its time due to the introduction of a chain strap, enabling women to carry their purse on their arm instead of in their hand. Chanel recognized a need for women to set their hands free.
The Classic Flap bag is labeled with interlocking CC, which were introduced in 1980s and differs from other Chanel 2.55 bags, it features quilted chain strap, lozenge pattern and double flap closure. This classic can be worn for evenings or even daytime paired up with jeans, skirt and so on. In 2005, in celebration of the 50th anniversary of this bag, Karl Lagerfeld revived the original design, this well-known reissue, however, has the original Mademoiselle lock and an all chain handle rather than the two intertwined Cs, and the reissue proved even more popular than its original. Therefore, bags with two intertwined Cs are known as Classic Flaps.
